Abstract

In the decade between the ’50 and ’60, the so-called Milazzismo was not only a parliamentary conspiracy, neither a simple clash inside the Democrazia Cristiana, exploited by the communist left. That political phenomenon was an unexpected outcome of all the social tensions following the post war reconstruction and the building up of the consumerism society in Italy, where the issue of economic development intertwined with the transformation of the DC led by Amintore Fanfani. The following distresses found in the idea of Sicilian autonomy a broad framework, which allowed political alliances unthinkable for the Cold War logics. Temporarily, the Sicilian crisis seemed to change the national political system forever.
