By using Moore’s evolutionary stages of an ecosystem, this chapter portrays the evolution of entrepreneurial ecosystems along the entire period of existence and helps to appreciate how cooperation and competition interplay in the course of its development. On the ground of a qualitative study of the entire lifecycle (from its birth to termination in the decade 1999-2009) of a Canadian ICT ecosystem, our findings explain in particular the “ecosystem evolutionary lifecycle”, as well as the “ecosystem coopetitive relationships”. We provide a framework for understanding the unfolding of ecosystem actors’ competitive and cooperative behaviors and their interplay (i.e., coopetitive behavior) along the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem’s lifecycle.
