The study on the influence of the hole on the stress and strain distribution of the compressed members stressed its influences on the reduction of the bearing capacity and on the strain increases.

Abstract

In the present paper an experimental research regarding the effect of the drilling technique on the response of compressed reinforced concrete members is presented and discussed. Ten columns having rectangular cross-section of sides 46x16 cm were tested in compression in a displacement controlled mode. Some of these specimens were preliminarily drilled with circular hole of 10 cm diameter and placed in a symmetric and asymmetric position. The study on the influence of the hole on the stress and strain distribution of the compressed members stressed its influences on the reduction of the bearing capacity and on the strain increases.
