Mujer, memoria e historia en Las peregrinaciones de Teresa de María Teresa León

María Teresa León kept a constant, necessary dialogue with her memory and history during the ages of her exile. She never broke the bond that linked herself with her land. Through writing she succeeded in maintain the collective and individual memory of a very important age of Spanish history. The aim of this paper is to analyse the underlying reasons in María Teresa León’s Las peregrinaciones de Teresa (1955). The work is shown as a metaphorical journey, an itinerary through memory paths. Past situations are recreated, characters related with the author’s childhood appear, the past is explored to not forget the terrible historical events and the repression and injustices committed against who stood up for the republican cause.

María Teresa León mantuvo en los años del destierro obligado un diálogo constante con la memoria y la historia. Nunca rompió el lazo que la unía a su tierra. A través de la escritura consiguió perpetuar el recuerdo colectivo e individual de una época fundamental de su pasado y de la historia española. El objetivo de este artículo, por tanto, ha sido analizar los motivos que subyacen en una obra del exilio, Las peregrinaciones de Teresa (1950). El libro se configura como un viaje metáforico, un itinerario por los lugares de la memoria. Se recrean situaciones pasadas, aparecen personajes de la infancia de la autora. Se bucea en el pasado para no pasar página por los terribles acontecimientos históricos y no echar en el olvido la represión e injusticias perpetradas contra quienes defendieron la causa republicana.
