Rilevare valori e stereotipi di genere per prevenire le violenze: nuovi approcci metodologici

It is now well established that in order to implement forms of prevention of gender-based violence (both physical and symbolic) it is necessary to initiate a change in cultural models that can lead to maltreatment. To this end, it seems necessary to analyse in depth values, attitudes, and stereotypes about gender identity and relations between women and men. The contribution of this work is to present alternative survey techniques to the usual ones (both qualitative and quantitative) to investigate these constructs. The instruments I have constructed are inspired by two projective tests, the T.A.T. and the Sentence Completion Test, used in clinical psychology for the study of personality and here used instead in a socio-anthropological framework to detect not personality traits but social and cultural values, which guide actions even in an unconscious manner. As shown by the results of the two investigations presented in this essay, it seems that the methodological advantage of a sensible use of these techniques, is that of being able to collect information and "thick" observations (Geertz) in a reasonably short time on a considerable number of subjects. This is decidedly greater, compared to what can be achieved, in the same time span, with the traditional qualitative approach's techniques. Moreover, one can also make use of statistical analysis, if one prefers to adopt a quantitative method, with the instrument inspired by the Sentence Completion Test .

E’ ormai assodato che per attuare forme di prevenzione delle violenze di genere (sia fisiche sia simboliche) occorre avviare un mutamento dei modelli culturali che possono sfociare in percorsi di maltrattamento. A questo fine, sembra necessario analizzare approfonditamente valori, atteggiamenti, stereotipi sull’identità di genere e sulle relazioni tra donne e uomini. Il contributo di questo lavoro è presentare delle tecniche di rilevazione alternative a quelle usuali (sia di tipo qualitativo sia di tipo quantitativo) per investigare questi costrutti. Gli strumenti che ho costruito si ispirano a due test proiettivi, il T.A.T. e il Test di completamento di frasi, usati in psicologia clinica per lo studio della personalità e qui impiegati invece in una cornice socio-antropologica per rilevare non tratti della personalità ma valori sociali e culturali, che guidano le azioni anche in maniera inconsapevole. Come mostrano i risultati delle due indagini presentate in questo saggio, sembra che il vantaggio metodologico di un uso avveduto di queste tecniche sia quello di poter raccogliere informazioni e osservazioni “thick” (Geertz) in tempi ragionevolmente ridotti su un numero considerevole di soggetti, decisamente maggiore rispetto a quello raggiungibile, nello stesso arco temporale, con le tecniche tradizionali dell’approccio qualitativo; e, se si preferisce adottare un metodo quantitativo, con lo strumento ispirato al Test di completamento di frasi si può usufruire anche dell’analisi statistica.
