Abstract: This article focuses on the essays of María Lejárraga, a key figure in Spanish feminism in the first third of the 20th century. Her feminist articles are analyzed in order to highlight the main postulates of her educational and political ideology in favor of equal opportunities for women. For this, speeches such as those included in the Cartas a las mujeres de España, La mujer española ante la República and other articles published in Spanish magazines and newspapers have been mainly taken into consideration. María Lejárraga exposes her educational and social concerns in her first essays, later her message diversifies: it becomes a political discourse through the expression of the struggle to obtain full legal equality for both women and men, and especially for equal electoral rights.
