Popular Paremii, especially traditional proverbs, often express a strong feeling of discrimination and contempt towards women through forms of verbal and symbolic violence. Therefore, in order to avoid the formation of a particular form of prejudice, such as sexism, the knowledge and the correct interpretation of our cultural heritage become fundamental to identify the causes of legitimation and reiteration of gender asymmetry, understood as the female subordination within a strongly androcentric community, which inevitably pours over the way of conceiving and representing the role of women in society. The main objective of the article is to propose a reflective review of the stereotypes and prejudices configured in a corpus of Spanish, Italian, and Sicilian Paremii about women and therefore grouped in the thematic area of female personality. In this article, we will try to understand and compare, through the contrastive analysis of the above-mentioned Paremii , what are people’s perceptions of women and the attitudes people assume towards them within two different societies, united by the same geographical space and from deep historical cultural contacts.

Abstract
In this article, we will try to understand and compare, through the contrastive analysis of the above-mentioned Paremii , what are people’s perceptions of women and the attitudes people assume towards them within two different societies, united by the same geographical space and from deep historical cultural contacts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
