THE “ROMAN FORUM” AT SYRACUSE AND ITS MARBLE - The remains of the colonnade in the “Syracusan Fo-rum” square have been known since a long time, and have often been studied from the point of view of architecture and architectural decoration. The first aim of this paper is to resume the problem of the connection between the Roman portico and the large Syracusan agora, after a reconstruction of the events of their discovery and anastylosis. Secondly, we intend to re-propose the stages of the marble decoration in the city during imperial age, not only by studying the remains of the porti-co, but also by connecting them to more examples of architectural decoration in marble in Syracuse, from excavations car-ried out several times in the last two centuries.
