Based on the comparison between cult contexts and related artistic imageries, the research aims to find the iconographic turning point of the representations of Persephone from the Archaic-Classical to the Hellenistic-Roman periods. The investigation shows the influence of the Dancing Maenad by Skopas as the main artistic and revolutionary model for the type of Kore depicted from the late 4th century BC. and- subsequentially through Ovid - up to Bernini and at present days. The research also gives evidences that this iconographic change corresponds exactly to the abandonment of shrines and the relocation of Persephone to a purely funerary context.
