This paper investigates some aspects of multilingualism in the Maghreb, with a specific reference to Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, which are increasingly recognising the importance of English in the quality of their education plans and economic growth. However, English is still felt as “a newcomer with hybrid nature”, whose space lingers between French and Arabic; a new linguistic option, whose destiny balances between modernity and tradition, between the progress and failure of Arabization and a possible decline of French linguistic influence.

Abstract
