Abstract
Like all "sacred places", the deathscapes, constitute strategic landmarks in the physical space of the symbolic and cultural perception of space by the man; the burial areas, like those of worship, are the result of a cultural construction that interacts with both the material structures, both with the intangible identity of the communities. According to the global and multidisciplinary approach of the Archaeology of the Landscapes, reconstructing the history of these places, has a meaning that goes far beyond the archaeological issue. The funerary landscape of central Sicily gives us data for the understanding of the settlement dynamics that, especially in the North area, are often linked to the rock habitat, long-lasting phenomenon distinctive of the Mediterranean landscape and characterized, in Late Antiquity, by the widespread presence of burials with arcosolium linked to the road network.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
