This paper examines the perspectives of two of the 20th-century's greatest Italian and European authors, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Alberto Moravia, as well as certain markedly topical elements within their autobiographical and literary work. In particular, it will focus on the relationship they both developed with Africa, each playing their part constructing a creative and symbolic dimension. On this basis, it will be possible to study the Other from a perspective devoid of ethnocentrism and stereotypes of any kind, thanks especially to the method of “going native” (Brugnolo, 2017). It will be essential to analyse the development of the figure of the Other in the literary and visual work of the two authors and essayists: an essential step towards understanding and sharpening our focus within a multicultural and inclusive society.
