The paper analyses the evolution of the E.U., from the original free-market space, thought to boost trading between the member-State, to the nowadays organization devoted to the protection of the fundamental human rights. This, although, apparently reducing the sovereignty of each single State, and devolving it to the E.U. Institutions. Which leads to aknowledge some kind of "trade-off" between State sovereignty and the actual protection of humsn rights.
