Halitosis or bad breath refers to any offensive odor emanating from the oral cavity. Recent significant advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and odor detection technologies have led to a rediscovery of the use of scent in clinical diagnosis. A number of infectious or metabolic diseases were once recognized for their ability to emit odors that were distinctive to that particular stage of the disease. With its enormous potential, AI has greatly improved dentistry. It has also contributed to the diagnosis and detection of halitosis by analyzing complicated biological samples, identifying and categorizing odors, and processing vast amounts of data to identify trends and make predictions. Numerous modes and techniques have been effectively employed; the electronic nose, or e-nose, is one such instrument. This chapter aims to present a note on the mechanism and clinical implications of e-nose.
