In this article we aim to reflect upon the absence of excellent Spanish female writers in the Spanish history and literature. They not only lived the drama of Republican exile, but they were also condemned to invisibility – some of them were obliged to live in the shade of their husbands ́ popularity or that of their famous families. We will focus on the example of great injustice shown by the life experience of one of the best drama writers of Spanish scene in the 20th century. Abstract

She was a prolific writer, active Spanish feminist, a Member of Parliament for the Socialist Party – María Lejárraga (María Martínez Sierra, 1874-1974) signed most of her works with a pseudonym, “Gregorio Martínez Sierra”, the name of her husband.
