Abstract

This article presents an innovative application to minimise and standardise accident records collection and storage fragmentation and variability in. In particular, the application developed for smartphone or tablet focuses on the characteristic of uniqueness of the accident data acquired, creating a common accessible database and enabling to process simple to complex queries and statistics, reducing time needed. Moreover, the proposed application can be used to inform in real-time Traffic Control Centres to act rapidly in order to minimise the impacts and disruption effects, but also to provide to the public informative maps with simple but effective statistics based on the accident history of each road section. This together with existing road signs may have a powerful impact on behavioural aspects and accident reduction.
