Among Taiwan contemporary writers, Lin Wenyi is regarded as a prolific author who has dedicated most of his whole output to the genre of literary prose sanwen since the beginning of his literary career. In his recent work Yishi batie (Eight notes of events the past, 2011), Lin attempts to draw an arc focusing on those moments that have marked indelibly the history of the island. In his narrative discourse, the author constantly lingers between past and present, entwining reality and imagination, in a cogent and bitter reflection on his own identity and on the conflicted sense of belonging, derived from the different experiences of the Taiwanese people during the XX century.
