Pathological addictions are characterized by the distorted use of a substance, an object or a behaviour; according to a psychodynamic perspective it is possible to underline common aspects shared by different kinds of addiction. This article discusses a theoretical model based on trauma and affect dysregulation in determining pathological addictions.
