Accurate research aimed both at the study of ancient water mills of Central Sicily and the opportunities offered by innovative technologies applied to the knowledge, conservation and valorisation of cultural heritage, have allowed highlighting new regeneration opportunities for this territory. In particular, along the river stretches crossing the territory of Piazza Armerina, a number of itineraries and architectural structures have been identified, which could play an active role in the process of rediscovering and reappropriation of the place by the local community and the visitors. Therefore, this paper focuses on the establishment of guidelines and technical modalities for the recovery and sustainable reuse of a rural patrimony, today largely made up of ruins, but still an important source of meanings, memories and identity.
