To date, research on psychological flexibility in workplaces has not been systematically conducted in Italy. We investigated its relevance in the context of the Italian health care system. Employees who show psychological flexibility are more likely to be open to the acceptance of setbacks in their work environment and to carry on their valued living and working path. This seems to reverberate positively on individual wellbeing. In general, psychological flexibility positively influences the wellbeing of individuals and helps them to flexibly respond to changes and work more efficiently. Our study provides further evidence that psychological flexibility, which is central to the ACT model, is trans-cultural. In addition to demonstrating the central role of mindfulness skills to wellbeing in the workplace, this study provides a useful baseline and rationale for the development of interventions to reduce the probability of occurrence of distress and psychological comorbidity in health workers.
