This study proposes the three-dimensional modelling as an instrument able of allowing multi-scalar analysis interrelated within the territory. The methodology has been tested on a central portion of the Sicilian territory, the Enna area. This has been chosen for its specific orography, landscape and urban morphology, which make it a complex territorial reality. The testing used the data from an airborne lidar survey on the Sicilian territory, integrated with specific detailed laser scanner measurements. The work carried out has consented for the provision of a morphometric documentation on the entire area, both on the territorial and on urban and architectural scales, aimed at documenting the relationship between the city and the surrounding territory, between the urban fabric and the landscape aspects of the site. With the awareness that knowledge is the first step towards safeguarding, the objective is to comprehend those delicate relationships between the city and the surrounding territory, aimed at their protection and enhancement.
