The skilful management of natural light inside the spaces allows to obtain different advantages in terms of visual comfort, energy saving and psychophysical wellbeing: this practice is called daylighting. The architect of the future can take solar radiation into account as one of the compositional elements of the built space. For this purpose it is necessary to know the different components of the luminous flux, the light sources that can be used for the lighting calculation and how they interact with the different lighting systems. With the modern data processing software its possible to obtain faster the parameters necessary for the evaluation of space from the point of view of the solar contribution. In particular, the factors that need to be considered are the aeroilluminating ratio, the daylight factor, the illumination level and the glare check. The results that follow an analysis of the above parameters indicate which design strategies can be pursued to improve the quality of the architecture.
