The paper analyze the process of making the Other-costructing the Self, through the case study of "Turks" seen by Europeans and Chinese during the Seventeenth century. The chance of analysis is given by the presence of Chinese books arrived in Europe around the mid-seventeenth century, among which are texts written in Chinese by Jesuits presenting the Christian world as opposed to its Muslim neighbour, and Chinese encyclopedias describing their perspective on Turkish and Western populations.
