Nonfatal cervical-neck lesion with a wooden foreign body: Diagnosis and management

Abstract Penetrating cervical lesions caused by a foreign body are rare events. The neck is a complex and delicate body region, given the important vascular structures it holds. The most frequent fatal complications often involve vascular injuries, and as a consequence, the mortality rate increases by approximately 50%. Civilian patients are mainly victims of violence or motor vehicle accidents and rural accidents involving neck are not very common. When a cervical lesion is because of a wooden foreign body, infectious risk increases for its organic peculiarity.
