Abstract

Smart home system uses the wireless sensor network technology to share the information between physical components and control system. Effective energy management is a crucial aspect in the design of a smart home system. In this paper a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is considered and a Multi Swarm Optimization (MSO) approach is used to reduce the power consumption of the sensor nodes to extend their battery life. To achieve this goal the proposed algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the FLC membership function. In each iteration of the algorithm it is necessary to verify constraints on the parameters of the membership function. To reduce this additional computational cost the MSO algorithm assisted by a proportional technique is proposed to increase the convergence speed of the algorithm.
