At the same time, it is possible to shed new light on the design line of Guarini's bell towers, which has so far been little explored by scholars due to a lack of sources.

Abstract

The perspective section drawn by the Parisian carpenter Guillaume Feuillet in 1675 ca. has given scholars the unpublished representation of one of the two bell towers designed by Guarino Guarini for the church of Sainte-Anne-la-Royale in Paris. The paper is an in-depth study of this project for the bell towers of the Theatine church in Paris starting from the documentary sources on the construction site and the iconographic sources. The identification of the architectural themes addressed by Guarini has allowed us to investigate possible sources in the geographical and architectural contexts in which he found himself working. In this sense, the first training in Rome in the 1640s takes on particular importance for the architectural episodes of significant importance that occurred, such as the construction and demolition of the bell tower of St. Peter's Basilica designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, an event in which the main professionals active in Rome at the time took part. At the same time, it is possible to shed new light on the design line of Guarini's bell towers, which has so far been little explored by scholars due to a lack of sources.
