The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical teaching can represent a new frontier in the training of new doctors and healthcare professions. Five main points can be summarized for applying AI in medical education: chatbots, intelligent tutoring systems (ITS), virtual patients, “gamification” and adaptive learning systems. This contribution explores the main advantages in using artificial intelligence, the crucial technologies and the challenges associated with this new approach in medical education.
