This paper focuses on the role of social workers (SWs) in Italian Family Counselling centres (FCs) within the National Health Service (Law 405/1975). The POMI-Maternal and Child Health Project (Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2000) outlines the scope of competence of FCs, defining their priority objectives in terms of health and actions (operational strategies) to be pursued and carried out through teamwork, coordinating the actions and interventions of professionals with expertise in health, psychosocial and social welfare. In order to describe the operation of SWs in FCs, the study pursued a twofold objective: to analyse whether the role of SWs combines the functions of social work (professional mandate) and the institutional mandate of the POMI; to investigate whether SWs perceive their role to be valued within the team in terms of active and symmetrical participation. The web survey involved SWs from public FCs in the Region of Sicily. The questionnaire examined their operational activities across five dimensions: real and ideal professional self, perceived, enacted and received valorisation of the SW role, social work functions, and working methodology.

Abstract
The questionnaire examined their operational activities across five dimensions: real and ideal professional self, perceived, enacted and received valorisation of the SW role, social work functions, and working methodology.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
